Upgrading to 4.70 and CF Card Reader issues

Postby elementalbeats » Thu Mar 25, 2010 1:01 am

I upgraded to EOS4.70, and also installed a CF Card Reader from SCSIforSamplers ..

On loading, it takes a long time now, getting stuck on "72mb of memory installed" and then "Mounting IDE: 0" or similar. When it finally loads, all seems ok till I go to Disk/Browse. Then is just locks up, after a while screen goes blank.

Previously it had EOS 4.50, I installed the card reader before upgrading and seemed to be working fine. I wonder if EOS 4.7 does not like it.

I'll email the dude at SCSiforSamplers and see if he has any advice...

Cheers ppl.

Ok - finally managed to get it onto the disk page - and it shows no CF Card Reader :(

I will try going back to an earlier EOS version - can always use Chicken Sys Translator..

Check the SCSI-ID of EOS and the Cardreader.
After EOS-Update they might be the same.

To remove the delay at startup (because the floppy is not found) follow this:

This works in removing the delay. The pin-out of the motherboard floppy port can be found here:
http://pinouts.ru/Storage/InternalDisk_pinout.shtml
Install a jumper between the two pins (33 and 34) on the "Data" conncetor (CN28 on a E4XT Ultra motherboard) that are futhest from the front panel.
Problem solved.

Thanks for the tip about delay at startup...

I checked the SCSI ID of the Emu now and it is the default of 6... the CF-Card drive is 0. Should be fine.
I have a feeling I may have damaged the CF reader when I was trying to take out its SCSI connector. I've tried both EOS 4.70 and 4.61, same issue... If I put the floppy drive back it runs fine again.

Might have to send the reader back for repair

It might be a damaged connector plug (the one that bridges the CF reader board with the SCSI board) - I might try changed that connector cable....... wish me luck !!

Right, havent had much time to play with the Emu lately, but I have run into an issue with the CF Reader... EOS crashes when I try and save the bank.
This could be due to a faulty SCSI cable, or - maybe EOS 4.7 is not fully compatible with the CF Reader.

If anyone here has had luck with 4.7 and the card reader, please let me know.

Thanks

I have a CF reader and its working fine (multi type with SD, CF, MMC and PCMCIA interfaces).

Make sure that the SCSI termination is 100% correct. If its not then you will get errors during read and writes.

Cables can also make a difference I've found - even if it seems to work, a bad cable can be the culprit.

Termination is the first thing to check. Lots of posts on this and info the net.

Also - is your CF card compatible with the unit ? Some CF cards are 5Vonly, some 3V only and I've had CF cards that had dodgy flash memories that failed after a few months. Try another card too.
