Drumkit banks for emu ultra

Postby ehasting » Fri Dec 31, 2010 8:10 pm

Hello,
I have acquired a Akai MPD26 to get life to my drum programming on the emu.. starting to slip away using ultrabeat on logic i want to move back to the emu. But does anyone have some emu drum kit banks they share freely? (.e4b files?)

anyway, i am working on building up kits.. but it takes time :P

Well.. anyway.. my new years drum kit..

http://www.psy-works.net/blog/?p=114
After buying a Akai MPD24 controller, i started building kits on my emu to be able to trigger of for some inspiration.. here is a patch.. 16 drums (mapped from c1 and up). nothing unique.. some diffret vintage drum machines mixed together.. kind of hip hopish. Midi A and Midi B is filter cutoff and resonanse.. regular 4-pole low pass. single hits.

Here's some inspiration for the organisation of your sounds and drumkits:

1. Use a standard-setup for drum/key assignment of drum- & percussion sounds.
There is a standard-setup that is used by Roland and Yamaha and can be found in related mauals of the said manufacturers.

2. Create Presets that include just one drum-/percussion-sound with related key-assignment, playback-parameter, modulation settings & output-assignment.
It is easy to copy a preset and make some minor changes to the playback-parameter.
Undesired side-effects may occur if the same MIDI-Controller is used on multiple presets for the realtime-control of some modulation parameter.
So make some thought about this also ...
Give the preset a reasonable name, maybe with an extension at the end of the name. Example:
- a sound is just played as long as a key is hold: HLD (e.g. "808 Kick HLD"),
- a sound is played completely after it is just triggered with a Note On MIDI Command: TRG (e.g. "HH5 Clsd TRG")
- there are multiple presets that use the same sample and have similar playback-settings but Filter or Modulation settings are different: make up your own mind ...

3. Create Banks with Presets of the same type like kickdrums, snare drums, tom setups, hihats, etc.
When looking for another sound, you can use SoundSprint to check if the selected sound fits to your set.

4. Use a Master-Preset that links the required presets together to a complete drumkit and select this Master-Preset in Multimode.
When a drum- or percussion sound should be replaced, you just have to change one link in the Master-Preset.

Such an organisation makes the setting up of a drumkit very quick and easy.

Hey.. thanks.. the idea about using the link function in the emu was rather great!
I create drumkits that fits the mpd26 controller mostly. but will start to build up kits with single type of drums which i can link in... i need to get my old mac with os9 to fly first :)
