Are you sure you have an ASPI layer installed ? This is an absolute need for SMDI to work.

MfpHouse: i successfuly runned an E6400 classic on a Toshiba M60-176 laptop with an Adaptec 1480 pcmcia card. Great 17" laptop, still got it.
It worked like a charm.

You probably won't find any notebook with SCSI embeded (I don't think it ever existed)

Old Apple laptop had them.

The dual boot was definitely the way to go

Now I got ultra-fast transfer of samples from my PC to my E-Mu, plus the samples keep their names after transfer (which is not the case if you use MIDI transfer of wave files).

Quite a pain in the ass to succeed, but I don't regret

Just would like to mention, that my Win7 setup now is succefully send samples to the sampler. The bad news is, that you cannot run the SMDI under ZoeOS, but you can send the samples to the EMU with the new Sound Forge Pro.
I have Win7 Business N x64, Adaptec 2940UW card (it was a pain to succesfully install the drivers under Win7 - if anybody needs some help about it, e-mail me). I tried perhaps 50 different ASPI driver and WNASPI32.DLL, but non of it can see the sampler. (FrogASPI, WaveLAB 6.11 ASPI+ driver for Win7 see everything on the IDE and SCSI chain, except the sampler. VueScan doesn't have separate ASPI layer.) I found some Italian page, where people showes their own ASPI related source code, but i think it would be a hard thing to make a new one for the new computer systems.
Sound Forge doesn't have ASPI, but they programmed all of the SMDI commands inside the program, and its works for me from the first run.
ZoeOS can run in Win7 x64, so now, we can forget the XP environment.

Would you mind posting the driver files + installation procedure for the 2940 ? Do you confirm you have a x64 Win7 version ? (cause adaptec says there will be no support for x64 versions of Win7, and last time I tried I could not gzt it install under x64 ... )

I'd love to delete my XP partition + have the comfort to work with my sampler without the need of switching OS ...

Hi,
Here it is the driver. This driver was a microsoft driver to emulate the old scsi cards under vista x64. You cannot find it in Win7, however it is perfectly works under Win7 x64. You need to extract the directory in the system32 or /drivers folder (i think anywhere else would be fine), and start the add new hardware (or locate the scsi card /unidentified device/ in the Device Manager, and Update Driver!) procedure, and at the final stage you need to choose, you have the driver disk, and point to the extracted dierectory. And everything would be fine. But, what i said, you need Sound Forge 10 to use the SMDI transfer, becouse this is the only program which has a Win7 compatible SMDI driver. ZoeOS works under Win7 x64, but i don't like it too much - i'm faster on Novation Remote / EMU front-plate programming....

First of all I want to thank you for the driver !
It's the first time I finally succeeds in installing my 2940 under Win7 x64 !!



The thing is, when I run SoundForge, it seems like it does not detect the attached SCSI card :



If I click on "Configure", I get the following snapshot, and there's no way to add the adapter in the list :



I have checked all of my SCSI IDs, tried several boot orders, etc. but always got the same result ...
Do you have any idea about this ?

What version of SoundForge do you use?
I installed the latest one, what i downloaded from the sony website. (Version: 10.0c).
It's works perfectly, and recognise the scsi at the first moment.

I finally found where the trouble was coming from : I simply had to run SoundForge as administrator (even though the account I was using at first is supposed to be an administrator account also). So it seems like (for me) the program had to run under the administrator account itself.

For the record, I've tried with all 3 versions of SF (10.0a, 10.0b, 10.0c) : all three worked perfectly well (if run under admin).

This is great news for me because I love my E-mus babes (e6400 Ultra + E4XT Ultra) and I'm frequently using them in my work ... thanks again for the trick, I'm sure this will help many people around

By the way, did you say you were working with AutoMap to control the E-Mu ? If I'm asking is because I got a Novation 49SL MkII and I'd love to know how you possibly work with both units together ...

It's a good news that the problem was solved, and everybody can enjoy their sampler under win7. Its also good to know the 'administrator' problem - i never think on it!
Btw. i use a simple x-station without automap. i programmed the non-real-time messages as a sysex messages (like the envelopes), and have around sixteen MIDI CC channels for the real-time controls such as filters and envelopes. It's very simple. For the tricky things i programmed on the front-panel, but when i playing or shaping the instruments and noises i use the keyboard.

Hey that's a great idea to use sysex and CCs ...

I'm currently working on a piece of software (.Net developping) that would initialize patch chords (+ lots of other parameters) over a set of programs within a bank. Typically I want to re-save all my banks after I reassign MidiA->Filter Cutoff , MidiB->Filter Resonance, etc. without having to do it manually for all the programs. I've just discovered that doing this the Sysex way is probably the simplest method

I would be very interrested in the way you use all of the midi channels + the mappings you use (Sysex + CC) ... if you ever have time to post these
