GFX Bus Volume Control?

Postby speak_onion » Sat Mar 12, 2011 6:45 pm

Is there a way to MIDI control the volume of the GFX 1 and 2 Busses? I'm loving all the routing and FX power I have with the RFX card and I'm setting up some really fun MIDI controls with my PX7, but I'd really like to be able to have knobs for the output volume of the GFX busses. I could put a "mixer" effect in one of the slots on them, but I've already got a setup that uses all 16 possible effects and I'd rather not ditch 2 of them just to gain control over my volume.

Any ideas?

You can control all four Auxes in the Mixer Window.
And you can control all four Sends via Presets Chords.
Sometimes you have to be tricky , if you want to stack Buss in GFX 1 or 2.
But there are many possibilitis.

If you have used all of your plug-in slots, then I don't think you can MIDI control the GFX1/2 outputs. As you've discovered, you would have to sacrifice a plug-in slot.

The best you can do is map controllers for the Send values for the input level, as MFPhouse has suggested, but you would have to do this on every channel you have routed to the GFX1/2.

I think this is one of the many things E-mu never got round to with the RFX. I would have expected them to create an assignable MIDI controller for this.

Okay, this is theoretical, but it should work...

Analogue solution:
Physically connect a pair of non-Main outputs to a pair of inputs (Sample or External ADC).
Set GFX1/2 > Main to 0%.
Assign GFX1/2 to non-Main outputs in RFX Output Map.
Enable Sample Input or External ADC in Multimode.
Send to Main Bus.
Use CC#7 to control GFX1/2 level.

Digital solution:
Physically connect R-ADAT 9-16 Out to R-ADAT 1-8 In.
Set GFX1/2 > Main to 0%.
Assign GFX1/2 to ADAT Outputs 9-16 in RFX Output Map.
Enable ADAT Input in Multimode.
Send to Main Bus.
Use CC#7 to control GFX1/2 level.

...Or use the 4 Send values for GFX1/2 input and retain your sanity. ;)

Thanks for the ideas. I have the 4 send values mapped, so I'll use those, and I'm sure I'll get by. Too bad. There's so much RFX stuff that I want to be MIDI controllable and isn't. I would have loved to have a lot of MIDI control over the Rhythmic Delay plugin and devote a whole page of my PX7's 16 knobs to controlling it, but you can't even MIDI control the feedback amount on it. Oh well, still having a whole lot of fun with it.
