I will get tomorrow my 4.7-based EMU sampler.

I plan keeping the eos internal hard drive and using a fat-32 external scsi HD for backup and maintenance,

and I plan using and PC (win-xp pro sp3) for maintenance, cleaning, importing samples from wav files, etc.

So, I'll need a usb-scsi interface.

Any recommendation about brand, model, specifics?

Any known uncompatible devices?

Any know totally friendly devices?

Anything in between?

I need 9/18 gigabyte capacity.

ZIPs don't get even near that

Adaptec cards are reliable and any should work. Just check comparability to your operating system.
Mine is inside my tower, so I cant read which one I have installed, but I have used a few with no issues.

I think I have used one of these before with no probs

And It might not work, but If it does it saves the trouble of installing a card in your PC.
It is just a case of weighing up the advantages compared to the cost and compatibility between this and a scsi card.

You could always remove the hard drive and put it in one of these

This will hook up to usb and allow your data to be transferred with the PC.
If you have a 2.5 ide drive then the enclosures are even cheaper

Its only a 2 min job but it will involve opening up the emu to make a backup.
But you could always use a zip for small transfers/updates and just carry out the backup once or twice a year.

1) "scsi to to usb", not "ide to usb"

2) need to perform backups back and forth from other disks on a regular basis, not twice a year

3) internal HD is formatted in eos, not fat32. I need a scsi to usb coversion tool for the external HD
