ProTools and the E4 Patinum

Postby lost_sound » Sat Nov 15, 2003 6:15 pm

Is there any way to transfer audio files between a G4 running ProTools and a E4 Patunum?(inside ProTools) it will not let me open recycle and ProTools at the same time. (conflict trying to share protools hardware)

Also , what are some of the better midi features in Logic. I hear every one talking about it, but what's the hype all about?

recycle works but I was looking for a solution within protools software. but it ain't happening (thanks digidesign) I may be making the move to logic for sequencing and PT for mixing.

Can you use ReCycle in Pro-Tools via Rewire? (I believe the latest version of PT supports ReWire). I don't know if ReCycle actually features ReWire, but it would seem strange if it doesn't, as Propellerheads developed ReWire.

Simple Answer is ... NO BTW in Pro tools disable ' active in background' i think its in the Options menu. Then launch Recycle, when PT is in the background it will release the hardware an u WILL be able to play audio in Recycle

I always thought Cubase had a much better sequencer than Logic..its far easier to use and is simple to understand since it is clearly layed out and everything u would expect to do is there an is easy to perform without stupid assed workarounds.. Logic on the other has a shitty user interface and still uses User Interface Elements from the Atari...that is, there are things on the user interface that u must 'CLICK AND HOLD' (clicking a button does nothing) for a menu to pop up yet there is NO button for these type of things so u really are playing around in the dark. The matrix editor is a piece of shit compared to Cubase...the quantizing in the matrix editor is just completely DUMB they way they designed it. Other stupid things are the lack of note info..oh yeah u can open this stupid fsckin note info floating window but it still doesnt display note length in midi ticks....besides its a fsckin dumbassed idea to need a floating window....sure u can click an hold a note an the note info is displayed at the top of the matrix editor window but u can't fsckin edit the values....this type of shiot is unbelievably BRAINLESS..fsck'd if i know what these guys were thinking when they come up with the design....did they have crack back then?

Drawing notes and resizing notes in Logic matrix editor was painful in my experience...it just never did what i wanted it to or expect. In cubase i draw a note in...i select the note move the cursor to the note info at the top of the window its displayed like a ruler... Left mouse click the 'note length' value an the value of the note length is reduced by clock ticks...u do this when u u are triggering drum loops from ya EMU..so that every bar will loop perfectly..if u dont do this the second bar wont trigger cos midi cant react to to new note on events when they are so close to a note off event. u CANT do this in LOGIC....i tried like a million times...but u cant do it. When u need to move the note in Cubase u just drag it to the next vertical line in the grid that corresponds to the current Quantize Snap value...this is the samp when resizing the note with the pencil tool...u cant do the same in Logic. I found that everytime i tried to move a note it would snap to some wierd position before or after the 1st beat of the bar when i wanted the note to start at the first beat of the ist bar. The same with note resizing, i found that if i needed to resize the note length to the end of the bar logic would only resize about 50 click before the end of the bar or 50 clicks after the end of the bar. Then i realized that the quantization value set was based on 'EACH individual note...not globally in that matrix window..seems stupid to me. Anywayz i decided to set quantization to 'OFF' and i STILL couldnt resize a notes length to the end of the bar....

beats me i gave up on it, if i cant work it out within 30mins without a manual i dont want to know about it.

As far as Midi configurations go Logic is far more advanced an flexible than Cubase or any sequencer for that matter...but with this complexity is confusion and many hours reading the manual is in order. The Pro Tools sequencer in contrast is a very very simple affair..its like the sequencer in Reason. I guess u could get used to it if you forced your self to. As much as i love the 2 window metaphor of Pro Tools i really still would prefer a dedicated window for editing midi notes in Pro Tools....just make it the same as Cubase's key editor.

I couldn't use the Pro Tools sequencer, it was too inflexible, and made working a little difficult. I guess if there was only a few bars of midi here an there it would be fine, but an entire 7 min track of pure midi gets out of control.

Problem i see is that im staying with the Mac (since i finally can say i happy with OS X since Panther) now an Cubase on the Mac is a pile or crap..if u want Cubase it runs like a dream on the PC so u would be wasting your time and energies doing the Cubase Mac thing.

Since Apple bought emagic and b'c i hated Digital Performer i just forced myself to buy LAP 6 much to my objection, im gonna have to learn this shitty app but i hold out hopes that the app is tightly controlled by Apple an they rework the user interface an redesign a few things.

U need to test things out for yourself an this is also another major PROBLEM since there is no demo of logic, no cracked version of logic, no demo of cubase an shitty unusable crack of cubase for the Mac. U could build a PC an test Cubase 2.0 and Logic 5.5.1 cracks these work fine on the PC...At least this way u can make up your mind as to which u like an then be confident when u make a purchase.

Anywayz hopefully some info here is useful...
