how to name and organize files and folders for transfer

Postby hb129 » Tue Aug 07, 2012 10:34 am

Hi there,

Recently bought an e6400 ultra with RFX 32 that I have upgraded to eos4.70 and installed a 40 GB ide fat 32 drive.

What I'd like to do is transfer my current (largely disorganized) library of samples from my PC to my emu. My library is a clunky set of folders and subfolders, files, almost all predominantly wav files at 16 bit, but some 24 bit.

I have removed the drive from the emu and installed it to my PC.

My question is - how should I name and organize my files and folders in order for them to be seen by the emu? Simply copying and pasting the library over did not work, I could not navigate to any if the folders. Is there any way to do this as a batch process/quickly?

Hi hb129,

in the Operation Manual Addendum to EOS 4.7 you get all information you are looking for.
1. You can have up to 1000 Folders (F000-F999) in the root-folder of the HD, where F999 is always the ROOT folder of your HD.
2. EOS can handle up to 1000 files per folder.
3. EOS cannot handle subfolders.
4. EOS cannot handle 24bit samples. You have to convert them to 16bit before loading them with EOS.
5. If you want a special sorting of your files and folders you have to use the naming convention as described in the addendum: see "T.BBB-NAME.EXT"

Thank you for a speedy an informative response. Guess it's time to give my sample library a proper sorting out, I'm looking forward to what I'm sure will be a cathartic experience.

Hi mate

I really recommand XRecode freeware (xrecode.com) to massively convert your samples into 16 bit : it only takes a few clicks and then it automatically analyses which file is 24 bit and converts it.

Hope it'll help !
