getting 16 mono outputs with rfx and 8 output cards?

Postby aeser » Sun Nov 30, 2003 9:28 pm

i just got the rfx-32 card and the 8 analog output card for it for my e4xt
ultra. before i had the rfx card i was using the 8 outputs i already had in
mono (disabled effects so i wouldnt get output bleed and then panned channel
1 main all the way left and channel 2 main all the way right and channel 3
sub1 all the way left and so on) and i bought the 8 analog output expander
mainly to get 16 midi channels outputting 16 mono voices through the now 16
analog outputs on the sampler, however all i've been able to figure out how
to do with the rfx card and 8 analog output card is send 8 midi channels out
in stereo through the 16 outputs. now i mean this sounds nice and fat and
everything (especially with the rfx cards lush effects which i am most
pleased with) but like i said i ideally bought it to get 16 individual
tracks running at a time from it, yet i've found no way to do this yet,

anyone figured out how to get 16 individual mono tracks going at once from
this type of setup or am i doomed to just use 8 in stereo with no other
option?

any information would be most appreciated

cool. the thing sounds friggin awesome though. i am not psyched to have to compromise with just 8 stereo outs but it does sound friggin incredible in stereo. fat as hell.

the other thing is i can assign rfx effects to a midi channel under master/fx/rsetup/edit but i can't seem to get it to stay when i go back into multimode, i.e. to use the rfx effects in multimode. argh. the learning curve on these things is daunting. but they sound so damn nice.

hi there, I could be wrong but I don't think they're intended to be used as 16 monos, i'd be surprised (interested though!) if you got it to work like this .. all the documentation i've seen about it talks about 8 stereo tracks only.

I read on 'Emu4zone' that the RFX has a problem with random panning, has anybody had this problem, and is there anywhere that I can get a list of the full effects of the RFX, I dont feel like forking out $600 for something I know nothing about.

just looked at the troubleshooting page , Id advise going nowhere near that RFX joke. You can get something else for the same price

I've had no problems with mine either... And if you look around you can get one for $300 or $350... So no, for that price there's no way you can get anything that does as much. I am a bit disappointed with the reverbs, they sound fairly tinny in my opinion. Other than that the effects are very useful IMO (and even the tinny reverb is fairly usable, I just don't have a clean reverb on any of my equipment and it's kind of annoying... some day I'll get a ksp-8...)

I am also keen to get hold of the RFX card for my E5000 & I must say, hearing stories of these bugs people have experienced has made me a little nervous  .
Those people that have had no problems with their RFX, what machine & what version EOS are you running it with? I am a little confused as to wether the bugs are due to faulty cards that people have purchased, or due to the EOS version people have run with the RFX. The fact that some people have had no problems gives me hope.
Cheers!
