Hi
I have an E5000 Ultra that had EOS v4.10a.
Now I will make a update to EOS v4.7 but with this EOS Upgrade discriptsion it does't work !!!!!
I have following different:
1. The Flashprep file-name witch I can download by emusonacid is FLPREP10.exe (not flashprep.exe) !!!!! Is this the right File ?
2. The EOS V4.7 file witch I can download by emusonacid ist not a .exe file !!!!! It is eos_470.dli ??? Is this also the right file ?

I make the procedur with Flashprep to generate the Floppy-Disk und copy the eos_470.dli to another floppy-disk (Formated in the CMD DOS-Windows under Windows-XP)
But the E5000 can not read (or startup) the floppy-disk !!!

When I do format the floppy-Disk with E5000 the the Windows XP (DOS-Prompt) can not read the Floppy-Disk !!

Can anyone help me for EOS-Update (v4.10a to v4.70)

Thanks a lot for all inputs
Yello

yello,
I'm looking to upgrade my E4XT Ultra from 4.10a to 4.7.

I bought the disks on eBay. I'm still waiting for the flashprep disk which will arrive hopefully later this week.

I will keep you in the loop regarding how I did it (if I manage to do it that is)
:)

Update on this:

It seems to me that some of the files on here arent working. I found this site instead:
http://francisfisher.me.uk/problem/2011 ... y-archive/

There you can find EOS and flashprep.

It seems I didbt have an ultra (I have the Hollywood Gold edition) and I couldn't update to 4.7 so I managed successfully to update to 4.62. Peewh :o

o well.

I still can't find the original flashprep exe. There's some other versions floating around.

By the way, take a look at what the manual says about EOS 4.7:

1.Download EOS 4.7 from the E-MU web site (http://www.emu.com).

2. Copy the software to a DOS formatted 3.5” floppy disk.

3.Insert the EOS 4.6 software disk and turn power on. The display asks, “Update FLASH from floppy?”

4. Press Enter. The display reads, “Loading OS…” This takes a minute or two.

5. The display then asks, “Burn to flash?” Press Enter.

6. A few seconds later the Emulator will boot normally.

7. Power off the Emulator and re-boot.

Why does it tell you to download and create a 4.7 OS disk, then tell you to insert a 4.6 disk and install from there? It's not like the Emus have a satellite that work with floppy disks sitting beside it :???:

Some additional information:

I have an E4XT Ultra for a few days now (waiting for Midikeyboard to arrive, yay) and just updated it from 4.01 (yes, 4.01 not 4.10) to 4.7.
Important is not the Host-OS your formatting the disks with BUT how.

Don't format them in the windows explorer (rightclick etc) but in the dosbox you'll open with CMD.exe in the prompt (press windows+r and type in cmd.exe)
Then type in:

format a:

This takes a while and after that it shows you some statistics.
It's crucial the statistics don't say anything about broken sectors or something as my EMU just ATE 11 (!!!) floppy disks which all had broken sectors.
I had just two which were perfect, one for flashprep and one for EOS4.7.

BTW: I also didn't manage to get the EOS 4.61 (from emusonacid file section) onto a disk, it always aborted with error #100 without even accessing the floppy (on windows)
I was wondering what the difference between EOS 4.61 and 4.62 might be, as the 4.62 is only available in the emu classic samplers section on the emu.com support page. Also the only way to get EOS 4.61 on the emu page was to select MAC Computer and Ultra sampler. Very confusing.

cheers, hope I helped

EDIT: omg, I forgot the most important thing:
The screen isn't just blank but very light in contrast. If you look from below onto the display you can actually read and see what the sampler is doing while updating, it also asks you some questions, what to do!

*** EOS Upgrading *** for Classic line

Postby mosrob » Sat Apr 21, 2012 2:49 pm

A few days ago I found a website where a guy is actually working on making 2MB Flash RAM boards for the E4-classic line.
He told that he has an e64 for testing and that these boards will not work with the Ultra-line.
[This doesn't matter as the Ultras have 4MB Flash Memory and there will be no further EOS upgrade that require more space.]

As the boards are actually not assembled completely, he does not know if the completed boards can be provided AS IS (the user has to update EOS himself) or if the Flash Memory has to be programmed outside the E4.

We will receive more information when the boards are ready for shipment.

I'm thinking about purchasing an e6400 Ultra with OS 4.01 installed and upgrading it. I don't have a computer with a floppy drive though, and am thinking of buying the flashprep and 4.70 disks on ebay. But something I read somewhere confused me, in that I might need to upgrade to 4.61 first, and then from there to 4.70? Or is that not true? That is, can I purchase only flashprep and 4.70 and upgrade that way? I read the thread several times and it seems this is the case but I just wanted to confirm. Thanks! Edit: apparently I didn't read close enough because the very first sentence in the OP says they upgraded straight to 4.7 :???: whoops.

If I'm not able to buy the disks, has anyone had luck with a USB floppy drive with Windows running in Parallels desktop on a Mac? Thanks!

Last info on the 2MB Flash SIMM boards are that a prototype is working, electrical and mechanical.
But the board with the empty Flash RAMs is not recognized.
This is a software issue.
The Flash SIMM has to be programmed with something like a bootloader or needs some kind of identification data.

The guy announced that he has to build an adapter to read data from an old Flash SIMM and write this data to his prototype.
This info is more than 6 months old and there is no update on his website.

Thanks Mosrob.

Maybe he needs a flash module with EOS 4.6.1 so he can copy the data and burn to his flash? Do you have a website for this guy?

Thanks
