Here's a simple approach to making white noise with only the Emu

01. Assign the sampler to 44.1 analogue inputs (dont hook up any input devices)
02. Set the time, a few seconds will do
03. Force start the sampling process
04. Normalise the sample
Done!

Sounds like white noise to me!

Is it a joke?

If you have noise on the analog sampling inputs, you have forgotten to reintialize the eproms after the last EOS update.....

No man it's not a joke. Try it for yourself.

Sample manage - f3 (new) - Force start the sampler
Sample Edit - f4 (tools 3) - f1 (gain) - f6 (ok) - f6 - f6

This applies about 90db of boost to the background noise.

The ultra like all devices is never silent, it just appears to be at normal monitoring levels, but boost the sample by enough and ..... Hiss (a nice white noise sample)

I double checked this after your response by reintializing the eproms and I got the same result.
Anyone able to suport this, or is my machine somehow different?

Lol what analog inputs do you know of that have no noise present? Apply enough gain to any input ever and you'll start to hear the noise floor

Your Ultra works fine!

This is an absolute normal behavior!

The "reinitalize Issue" is a complete different thing.

You must do it after each EOS update.

If you don´t do it, the analog sampling inputs could have a very loud distorted signal.
This signal comes from an sampling input jack which is not connected!
For exampple, LEFT input is connected with a microphone.
If you then sample both inputs, you will get on the RIGHT input the loud distorted signal.

And it is really loud!!!

I just thought I would share this.
It's a good way to get white noise if you don't have a synth lying around or if you cant be arsed to hook up a sample source.
