ADAT or Jack output expansion

Postby emugonzo » Tue Nov 11, 2003 2:17 am

Hi, looking into getting an output expansion for my emu. can't seem to decide between the adat or the jack version. i've got a motu 2408 card which i think can handle an adat input (it says both tascam and optical adat on the back , will this work?)
so i think adat is good for studio work, but as for playing live i don't have any gear that could handle adat signals, so the jack solution is perhaps the best for gigs.
anyone?

As you're saying yourself the jack version will probably be the best for you if you intend to use the extra outputs live on stage unless you spend a small fortune on an ADAT converter.

I have the ADAT output board for my E-6400 Ultra for 16 digital outputs / 8 digital inputs and I love it.
I purely use it for studiowork though so I don't have the 'plug-into-analogue-equipment' problem that you may encounter :grin:

Some people say the analogue outputs sounds better too (the converters) but I can't hear any significant differences (if any at all).

That's my two cents;
