Hi guys, put a 40gig seagate in my EMU today, doesn't work! I connected the power in reverse - pins 4 3 2 1 - as I've been told. ..... The Emu turned on but I couldn't mount the drive ......is it the IDE cable? As you know it has three parts to the cable - The first part goes into the seagate, the second bit of the cable is not connected and the other end into the emu....is that right? Should the second part of the IDE cable go into the Seagate? :cry:

What OS and E--MU are you using? I assume the IDE cable has three male connections and that both opposite ends are connected to the drive and the sampler (make sure the stripe on the IDE cable lines up correctly with the right pin on the drive). Does the drive power up? Is it terminated as Master? Nads.

Hey you know it might have something to do with the voltage requirements of the drive. SCSI Bob and Tweak know about that shit so ask them. Also, I think EMU's won't take 40 gig drives. They really like less than 18gigs but a 20 gigger will work. I had a problem with a 10 gig Quantum, it just didn't work for some reason. Then I just went out and got a 20 gig Maxtor and it booted up right away.

EOS 4.7 definitely supports a 40 gig drive. I'm using one - it's fine!

Nads, Im using 4.02. Should the drive be set to master? Anyway it's blown now as the pin connections were the wrong way.....so I got fed up and decided to get the voltmeter out and work out what voltage the emu is throwing out and which pin should go to which pin on the hard drive - Also, the IDE cable is female - how should I connect this thing? There are three parts - one end to the emu the other end to the hard drive and the middle one left alone? Seagate havn't even marked the drive in anyway to tell you which end is 5v and which end is 12v - they are useless.......now to look for another drive - where can I get a Maxtor 20gig drive from? All the stores seem to do 40gig minimum -

Hey

make sure the drive spin up current is less than 1.7 amps - if it don't work then try reversing the IDE cable (the ribbon cable), as that is reversed too.

Definately upgrade your EOS, you're way behind!
