E6400 Ultra Backup with Translator

Postby stoutjunk2 » Thu Feb 05, 2004 12:56 am

Hi all,
I have read the previous forums on backing up to a PC and am confused.

Here is my set up:
emu 6400 ultra with os 4.10 and internal ide harddrive
connected to a ZIP drive and a CD-rom via SCSI

I currently use Chicken systems Translator to burn akai disk images with Nero and then can put these in the cd-rom connected to the emu to load.

My question:
I currently back up to the zip drive. What do I need to do to back up the entire internal ide harddrive to the computer using Translator???

If this is not possible, can I somehow connect the zip drive to the computer If I get a SCSI card and back up the zip disks to the computer using Translator???

Thanks, I know you guys have talked about this to death.

Translator cannot see the IDE drive, so that's not an option for backing up. How big is your IDE drive? If you got an external SCSI hard drive the same size (they come up on ebay fairly frequently), you could use that to back up your IDE drive.
You would be able to back up your zip disks using Translator, if you connected the zip disk to your computer via a SCSI card. However, if you have a large IDE drive (mine is 40GB, for example), this will take a long time!

Can you use a SCSI CDR and burn directly from the EMU to the CDR (not connected to a computer) and use this as a backup solution?

Also, I thought that internal IDE hard drives could only be used up 10 18 gig by the EMU?

Thanks for the input!

No, unfortunately you can't burn a CDR from the EMU (that would be perfect!).
One of the recent OS updates made it possible to use larger hard drives - I'm not sure exactly which OS update it was, but I'm using 4.7, and EMU does see all 40GB.

E6400 Ultra Backup with Translator

I've had problems creating a emu drive image with translator that will load correctly. My solution was to create an akai image that does load without problems.

I'm using nero to burn the emu image directly to the raw cd, what am I doing wrong? I've spent hours trying to get this to work!

Thanks again

I have huge problems when making a 540M drive image of my sampler's internal (using a 540M SCSI HD). When I load the disks back to the sampler the size of the data file ballons to at least twice the original size. Anyon e have the same problems?? NAds.
