SoundDiver question...

Postby 10^-9 » Thu Jan 08, 2004 8:36 am

Hi !

I just got an Emu and i've loving this shit! I want to make it work with SoundDiver and Recycle and have a couple of questions about setting that up:
1. Do these progs ( SoundDiver and Recycle) communicate through the MIDI interface or through the SCSI interface?
2. If through MIDI, then do I have to have a cable going from Emu's MIDI OUT to a MIDI IN port in an interface, or should it work without it?

Any info on that would be much appreciated! :thumbs:

Hey 10^-9.

Sounddiver uses only MIDI and yes ... you WILL need both MIDI in and MIDI out connected with your MIDI interface.

On the other hand if you want to use Recycle it will need a SCSI connection.

Recycle is handling audio signals / files where as Sounddiver is MIDI signals only.

Have fun with it and feel free to ask more questions;

Yeah...SoundDiver handles the MIDI/SysEx side of things and Recycle communicates via SCSI using SMDI. Get it set up sweetly and it's all pretty cool. Alternatively, you may want to have a look at ZoeOS which promises big things in terms of being an exclusive EOS/PC interface. Seems to work well on my PC using 98SE and an MTP--AV (I have no affiliation with the product or the developer). Nads.

I get the impression that some ultras were shipped with an OEM version of Sounddiver. If that's the case - how do I get hold of it?

(I've had the full version on order since mid-December and getting frustrated at the delay now)

You don't have to have a SCSI connection with Recycle. It's better but you can still dump samples over a MIDI cable. It takes a while though.
