Also, bad news for all of Mac users. The official response from EMU to my "where's the Mac version" question:

"At this time we will not be developing our new products in a Mac version. This doesn't mean that it will never be done, just not at this time.

That stinks - I guess I will have to wait and see how people on Windows like it to see if it is worth getting a dedicated PC to run it.

or just continue using hardware

Creative Labs has always been PC based consumer goods. They don't even know where to begin on another platform.

it's not like emu is only comprised of people from creative labs, they're still the same emu people that wrote mac drivers for the hardware samplers, there is no legitimate reason for them not to make a mac version.

E-MU seriously pissed off the management at Emagic in the past when they went looking for outsourced help in the pre-development phase of the Emulator X. Emagic management have vowed never to deal with E-MU again (they, E-MU that is, are notoriously bad at 3rd party relations)

Emagic = Apple = OSX, so I reckon they don't have the balls to do OSX or are scared to do so with such a negative vibe in place. There is also a Creative-Apple thingy situation as well so I don't think it will happen

If i were emagic id be pissed off to think our own exs is such a piece of shit compared to what EMU had planned

Im personally bitter about Apple buying Emagic but not because they killed the PC version of Logic.

Speaking of OSX is Zuonics and Apple a hold friendly relations?

To be honest it may even be due to the situation where Apple have moved the goal posts concerning expansion in their hardware. Apple decided to use PCI-X in all their G5's. Intel based hardware on the desktop are still using PCI rev 2.2-2.3 5 volt or 3.3volt. Looking at the future it seems very unlikely the PC world is going to adopt PCI-X as their future expansion. Ultimately if intel go with PCI-e and Apple don't then any company developing expansion cards is going to have serious concerns about a dual hardware development policy. I could certainly appreciate that sentiment.

Looking at the above situation as it is from EMU's POV would undeniably conclude the Mac is not viable at this point. When u think most ppl are saving for G5's they need a card for these machines, older G4 based ppl would be fine but at some point these machines will need to be upgraded.

As Emu have released their USB controller keyboards with Mac drivers and software, although I realise this doesn't have any real relevance to PCI/PCI-X and so on, I just thought it might be an opportune moment to ask if anyone's heard anything further about any possibility of Emu-X on Mac?

I hadn't heard anything... But the fact that the Proteus software is PC only is not encouraging...I think everyone on here is happy with the hardware and it wouldn't make a difference. I know that's how I feel about it anyway.

Fair enough ... I'd quite like one on my Mac, as I want to make my 'studio' fit into the smallest space possible, but I guess you're right that the likelihood of it seems low. Cheers

I have a dedicated machine for the emu x and its absolutely darkside.
IMO it neeeds its own machine as those z-plane filters are very cpu hungry.

EMU X =

Like most here I am also disappointed that I won't be able to use any other current Emulator X software.

Just a thought - with Intel Macs you can run either BootCamp or Parallels and Windows XP.

I guess that would work?

Of course this is just the software and not necc the PCI card stuff.

But with EMU's newly realeased cross platform MIDI and USB interfaces as well as keyboards I think it would work a treat.

Sadly I am in NZ so can not easily purchase any EMU products since the local EMU distributors went away. :(
