E4XT Ultra n00b SCSI cable question

Postby suspekt » Thu Mar 25, 2004 9:01 pm

Hi, this is the first time i have posted here so please ignore my ignorance. Still trying to figure out this Emu sampler i got...

My question is this:

I have an E4XT Ultra and i want to connect it to an external CD-R/W as well as the SCSI card on my PC. I am really just looking for a bit of clarification regarding the cables i need.

While i know the SCSI port on the Emu is 50pin, both SCSI connections on the CD-R/W appear to be the same (also 50pin), while the SCSI port on my Adaptec SCSI card looks to be 25pin.

So do i need a 50pin > 50pin cable fro the sampler>CD-R/W and then a 50pin > 25pin for the CD-R/W>computer? This probably seems really simple to most people but this is my first step into the world of SCSI and i am just realizing how many different cables and connections there are.

Also, what is the difference between a Low Density and a High Density SCSI cable? what is a centronics SCSI cable (just a brand name, or a specific type of connection?)... ?

Thanks for ay help. It is much appreciated.

Do a google search on midi adapters. There are a number of sites that show, as well as explain, the ridiculously various amount of scsi types out there. Here's one such site:

he sells all the different types of SCSI cables, and he'll respond to your emails very fast. if you ask him about your situation, i'm sure he'll know what you need.

oh yea, and assuming your E4xt has the same connection as my E5000 ultra, the Centronics (type of connection) is the SCSI connection on the back of it.
