HEADPHONES.... HELP!!!

Postby rippin snare » Sat May 03, 2003 8:46 pm

What headpones are people using and can anyone give me any info on some really well recommended ones for accurate, loud comfortable monitoring?

Thanks

well first off, you shouldn't listen to your headphones loud. it will make you go deaf... plus if you buy closed dynamic, you shouldn't have to play them so loud, since you can't hear much around you anyway...

the headphones that i use are the se dj5000 poineer headphones. they don't seem to have much low end, but the do excel at high end sound reproductions. i typically bought them just for mixing/ dj... got tired of having 30 dollar head phones fall apart on me all the time. but soon i found that i could hear better with them then i could with my monitors. i now use them for cutting breaks up for the most part, but i think i will find them to be even more useful as time goes by. especially since my monitors are failing.

that is all i can say, i guess it all just depends on what you are looking for in headphones. but that is my recommendation. hope this helps.

thanks for your resopnse. I just got back from my local shop and think I found the ones I want though after comparing against 3 other pairs.

the audio technica ath-m40fs... very flat, HUGE frequency range, low impedence etc. Sound quite nice when plugged into a Triton and not overdone like the others I tried on.

good...

if you dig the sound then go for it. like i said, it is all matter of taste. and if those phones cost less then the one fifty that i shelled out then that is even better...

to tell you the truth i almos think that head phone monitoring is better then just listening from speakers. with headphones you don't get all the other sounds from the enviroment. but then i could be wrong, since people tend to get monitors.

to be honest I find monitoring in headphones and monitors VERY different. Almost discouraging as things tend to sound different either way. I find them both needed as you can never reference with too many sources. I even go through some big cerwin vega speakers to simulate a small club or even my car to make sure things sound good all around.

Id like to add do not buy the Sony 700s (you know those nice looking silver ones). They sounds nice yea, there expensive and cheap as fuck!
They were not made to be repaired at all, they are completely sealed and sony will rape you if you send it to them.
Do not buy
Thank uyou that is all

yea i know that feeling. I had a pair of mdr-v900... top of the line sony's.. cost me over $300 and they too broke. It wasn't even worth shipping out and getting fixed cause a new pair would have cost just the same. then.. they discontinue the model in canada so I gave up. I was going to get the 7506 which was the studio version of those but decided against it because of that. The comparable ones were the audio technica ones mentioned above and a lot cheaper too.. (price wise only mind you)

to tell you guys the truth, i have had a bad taste in my mouth with sony for sometime now. i bought a minidisc recorder of theres and it jammed after the fifth disc i put into it. it was made really cheaply, but was expensive. then after getting that fixed, either the recording mech or the out put, like ad convert is fucked, now when i play a md on that one, i hear ghost images, and these are new discs for christ sakes.
so i have bought one more md recorder. this one goes down, i think i am going to swear off sony for ever.

also, with the ps2... not that i don't mind having to clean it out every month because it tends to have read errors when it gets dirty, or the fact that a year or two later after i buy it, and the warranty is nice and viod, does a game come out that actually utilisies the usb ports, and i discover that mine, both of mine are dead.

if sony didn't have all the good games i think i would have gone x box.

well, if you get a ps2, make sure you register it, and make sure you keep the warranty handy. the newer ones should be better. mine is after all two years old. i found it while the ps2 craze was going on. i will get back to you about the md recorder that i have, i can't remember what one it is right now...
