E4X Classic + SCSI - Common Issue?

Postby FireSeven » Fri Apr 02, 2004 8:32 am

I don't know if this is common or not, but I've looked for a few hours now on any information on this issue...

I have a PC with an Adaptec AHA-2940 SCSI card. When Windows is booted, and I login, ***NOTHING*** shows up as new hardware.

I never once saw the 8 SCSI devices appear on this computer.

The first time I connected the sampler, the Quantum FireBall hard drive *DID* show up as new hardware, and continues to show up as an available hard drive with an unknown filesystem.

Intel Motheboard
SATA Maxtor Hard Drive
Adaptec AHA-2940 SCSI Card with 50 pin "HD50" high density connector.
SCSI Cable with 50 pin HD50 connector and C50 (Centronics 50) connector.
E-MU E4X Sampler
EOS 3.00b
Adaptec ASPI Layer Installed

As a test, I installed Sound Forge and only "aic78xx" shows up in the sampler configuration, no selections or devices under that device.

What the heck do I do if I don't get the 8 devices?

Thank you much in advance, anyone.

revision: oh yeah - I tried booting the computer versus the sampler in different orders + simultaneously.

revision: i do see the 8 devices in the scsi card bios on boot

My PC only seems to find the EMU when i use the 'scan for new hardware' in Add/Remove Hardware (?) in control panel.

you need to install aspi on your comp, go to www.adaptec.com if you already have run the test util, if that don't work boot in safe mode and check if the drivers are in there if they are remove them and reboot you should then get asked again

I will try removing them and reinstalling them, but I do have them installed. The test util says up to date, and I just downloaded and installed it for the first time last night.

Also, for others who may read, you don't need to boot into safe mode in 2K/XP:

Load up the command prompt and type:

------------------------
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

start devmgmt.msc
------------------------

Then, click View, Show hidden devices in the device manager.
