hey all,
wondering if it's possible to export out a .E4B file from Emulator X, the same preset file the E4 samplers read.
what i'm hoping to do is be able to create a program in either my E4 or Emulator X and go back and forth with it from software to hardware.
of course, they have different synth engines and effect cards, so that stuff couldn't translate 100% i'm sure, but can you swap back and forth like this and at least keep the basics to your programs (note mappings, pitch, etc.)???
is this possible? anyone try?

oh, also, what's up with the Firewire port on the Emulator X audio interface? you can't run this stuff from a laptop, right? doesn't the software itself require PCI slots (for the effects) and the expansions for the interface (sync, etc.) require them too? i really want to be able to run this all off a laptop. not possible though, right?

well, emu says that X will indeed export as .E4B files, so you can trade between software and hardware, which for me could be pretty cool. although, they didn't mention it, but of course X has many filters/effects that the E4's don't (and maybe vice-versa?) so some of the settings obviously wouldn't transfer 100%. i wonder if this would cause some problems.

and yes, no laptop abilities with X right now (what were they thinking?) and of course they're working on it and will be released who the hell knows when.

i'm imagining this translation process will be alot like authoring flash ram proteus presets from an e4. basically none of your filter settings or cords or anything will survive, only the instrument samples. soory hope thats not really the way it is but, chances are...

but actually, i'm REALLY CURIOUS since i may consider buying EMU X just to create drum programs on a computer so i can save out .E4B banks that I can load in my hardware and play live. (i'm a drummer)

so if anyone has ANY experience with this, please let me know what all transfers and what doesn't.

now you got me real curious. it seems there is a lack of solid info on EMU X still even after it's release. can someone clear this up who maybe is already using EMU X.

yeah, i agree...i would use my E4XT on stage ANY DAY over the reliability of a software sampler. my idea here though is to finally have a good computer environment to make/tweak/hone drum presets that i can just save out as .E4B and pop back in my sampler. kinda still sounds a little dreamy though huh? probably fat chance it's that easy. although again, i was told it at least exports to .E4B. what all actually transfers well (lfo's, filters, coords, RFX (hah)) that's what i'm curious on.

Have you looked at ZoeOS from www.zuonics.com? If you've got a SCSI card and MIDI connection between PC and sampler, creating presets is quite straight forward.

have you used it, is it good? it looks pretty good.
is there any way to play a midi file back to the E4 while creating/editing presets with this software? from this software itself or would i (could i) use another sequencer app?

Hi, this is Paul @ Zuonics - I am writing auditioning into the app as we speak - I'm also considering the loading of midi files into the application to be summonsed for auditioning in the multimode as needed.

so Paul, it doesn't run midi as it is now?
if not, can you somehow run an external sequencer in the background while working with it?
what is the price of the software in USD?

In about 4 weeks time, a new version will be ready with auditioning capabilities. If your midi interface is multi-client you can run a sequencer simultaneously with ZoeOS - on the condition you don't confuse the Emulator by sending SysEx from the sequencer - just midi notes and controller info.

ZoeOS costs 113 GBP. The dollar exchange rate is something you should take up with Alan Greenspan.

I imported some e4b banks and it will not save the multi setup , but all the cords saved fine, just in case thats any help to anyone

yep i did it yesterday but on a eos 3 6400 i had to convert the file to a .eos bank and it all worked fine just no output assignments

but good to hear that most anything else transfers easily is awesome!

p.s. you are going from hardware to software, right? i wonder how it would be creating a preset on the software and taking it to the hardware? i wonder if it would be the same?

I went from my emu x to the e4, and i have done it the other way too using translator to convert the emu bank from an emu disk, i don't have an rfx i don't see how you could have the fx load up as the emu x has a separate (ptach mix) software for fx. the emu x plugin does export e4b as well its all good
