Hello Everyone,

I've got an E6400 Ultra with RFX and analog input expansions, and I love it. So far I've been an EOS slacker though. I've just been taking 3 to 6 second samples off of various synths at every C note, slaping a morphing or EQ sweep filter on it with LFO modulation, edit the amp evelope, and YEAY! it sounds great. I'd like to get more in depth with my E-mu and am thinking about picking up ZoeOS and a new midi-controller.

My questions about ZoeOS are pretty simple. It's sort of expensive for me since I'm a student, and I want to make sure it's money well spent. My big issue with EOS is not patch editing, but bank management and such. Since I use my E-mu as my mixer as well(ESQ-1 and Microphone), I'd like to be able to drag and drop RFX settings, but ZoeOS can't do that right? I big thing that would be nice would be able to drag and drop presets to various banks and to drag/drop samples to presets. So, is ZoeOS worth it if you're fine editing patches via the panel?

Also, is anyone using a PRC-30, remote-25, deopfer pocket fader, etc. to control their emulator? I'm thinking on picking up ether a fader box or knobby/slidery midi controller for mixing and such.

....Oh, I'm selling my Juno because I sampled it :-), and I'd like to spend the money enhancing my E6400 experience.

If you want RFX management then I dont think Zoeos will help you. I think this is mainly because Emu didn't get round to implementing sysex for it. Damn shame.

You can save different RFX Setups and Multimodes into Flash ram. I've got about 5 or 6 Mulitmode templates and 20 or so RFX Setups that I use all of the time. The great thing is they can be recalled with a couple of button pushes.

With regards to a controller I can't praise the Kenton Control Freak enough. It can be programmed to do anything (Midi CC, NRPN, Sysex, midi note on/off) and whats more it can do up to about 10 or 11 different CC messages per fader/button/knob. I've got one that triggers a note when you use the fade but also goes through sample start too, so basically you can fastforward or rewind a sample in realtime. The possibilites with the emu is endless. I've been also mucking about with sysex recently and have been working on a Kenton program that will change cord destination values - it works a bit like the random cord thing you used to get on EosWiz - just fiddle about until something sounds good without even looking at the cords page . I think the manual is on the Kenton website.

Thanks for the suggestion Illinformed. I've never heard anything bad about the Control Freak. In fact, I've only heard rave reviews for it, but unfortunately, my ESQ-1 died about a day after I posted. :-( So I went to the local music shop, and the girl firend offer to pay half if I bought the ION as a replacement. It was on blow-out, and she thought it looked cute.

...Well, I can't afford a new controller now, but I got a new synth. :-)
