Output levels

Postby SilentLink » Sun Jun 06, 2004 12:51 am

Hi,
I have been wondering lately about the right level settings on the mixer and my e5000 ultra.Right now I have my E set to 3 headroom and 0 gain. What I wanna know is what those levels depend on or should it be set differently depending on what you wanna use the sampler for.I use my sampler for preaty much everything and mix it all internaly due to wanting to play live.Is my output level set OK?

Are there any good articles on this metter?I am not all that good at setting levels and any info relating to mixer settings will be welcome very much..

Thank you

Gain staging in the Emu is easier than any other gear I've ever worked with, because it's relatively hard to distort the output.

So I have Headroom = 0 and Output Boost set to +12dB.

This will give you the loudest signal possible with the Emu.

You only need to change headroom from 0 if you're finding your output is distorting. If you mix everything in the Emu, this may be the case. Also, certain filter settings will distort, and if you want to use those settings, you'll need to increase your headroom. I usually try to work around this, in order to keep my output hot.

Output Boost is supposed to be used if you're finding your Emu's not loud enough. I have never encountered this - the Emu is by far the loudest piece of kit I've ever heard. I just put it at 12 to get it even louder :slayer:

I didn't have any problems with o/p I just wanted to make surre that louder means better.I don't have good monitors so I am kind of struggling with levels.I set mine to 3= headroom and +12 boost. It makes everything smoother ...
