RFX reverb

Postby niles » Wed Sep 29, 2004 7:41 am

Well, I'm starting to get around ok on the E4XT Ultra I bought a few weeks ago. I tried using the RFX as an outboard for the reverb with Mic, RNP then to Emu. Perhaps I'm setting it up wrong, but the reverbs in general do not sound that great. At least used in this way. My old LXP1 sounds better. Is it me? They sound fine when used with presets though. I guess I should be happy that there seems to be no panning or outburst problems. What do you guys think of the reverbs in general?

When I first got the RFX I did spend alot of time trying to get some decent sounding reverbs. I think I was 50% successful as they work fine with some material but sound terrible with other stuff. They are however outclassed by many software reverbs.

I would have to think hard about committing one to final mix (my gut instinct is that I wouldn't). They do make an excellent quick fix and I find them invaluable for live work.

Thanks Illinformed, yea, some things sound good, others do not. I guess I expected more from it but hey, at what this E4XT can do and the price I paid (especially compared to when I looked at them 3 years ago!) I aint complaining. Besides the verbs, the other effects are excellent for me anyways.
