emusonacid! legacy

Ive got an e64- and for some reason, I cannot get any sound to have any proper release- I get either a very minimal release (like a blip) or the whole sample will play out..

I was considering an OS upgrade but cant find a suitable version
currently Im running 3.00b
the emu site has versions 2.8 (why go lower?) and 4.10, 4.62 which require 2mb of flashram- where Ive only got 1mb


any suggestions??
