Burning FAT32 image?

Postby illinformed » Mon Sep 22, 2003 9:17 am

I have a lot of wav files on my PC which I want to transfer to the emu and I was wondering if the following would work.
Partitioning my PC hard drive into 2, one partition being 650 meg. Copying the wav files to the smaller partition and then burning a FAT32 image. I know that EOS 4.7 doesn't read NTFS but would it read an image of FAT32?

Thanks in advance

I think that would work. Ive been meaning to do a similer thing except I also wanted to burn my emu presets as a back up

but i understand you need a scsi harddrive and burner, and i havent got a harddrive yet
Let us know if it works though

I'm going to bump this one up because I'm in the same situation again. My USB Zip drive has fairly much blown up. I was saving wavs onto a FAT32 zip and then loading them into my Ultra (EOS 4.7) by the scsi zip.

Anyway, until I get a new USB zip, I can't transfer samples. I've partitioned 650 meg on my hard drive but I can't find any freeware utilities to make a bit by bit image of the partition. I've tried a couple of others out that claim to write images but they end up being CDFS which unfortunately EOS can't read. Another one only works on an XP OS and unfortunately this system has ME on it

Does anyone know of some freeware that would let me burn a perfect FAT32 image? Has anyone got a copy of DISK2CD.EXE because I can't find it online anywhere (I'm not sure if that would work anyway!)?

Thanks in advance

So the EMU can read hard drive images off a CD...When you say burn the image...Is this what you mean....Burn to a CD?

The image would be a large file on the CD called like IMAGE.???

Can Nero not do what you want or does it burn HD images in its own format?

I'm pretty sure this can be done....I'll have a look around.

It can when the image is of a SCSI drive. Yes to a CD.

I basically need some software that will write a cloned FAT32 image to a CD without CDFS. My logic was that if disk2cd works for SCSI then maybe something else might work with FAT32

If anyone wants to try this out http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&sa ... erXP&meta= then please go ahead and do so. The machine I'm using at the mo is WinMe  and no one I know will let me partition a 650meg drive on their XP machine. I also dont have nero at the moment - does this make bit by bit clones of drives?

The problem with this approach is that even if you manage to clone your FAT32 drive, how are you going to read the data back.

If you want to create a CD, then using an external SCSI drive and following the well-known procedure with disk2file or other utilities is the way to go.

If you really want to clone your FAT32 drive, the only option is to remove it from your Ultra, put it in an external USB/FW case, connect it to your PC and clone it with the software you mention, or Ghost, or Drive Image... Then you could save that image to disk or create a CD or DVD with it. If one day you had to restore your Ultra FAT32 drive, then it's a matter of copying the data back from CD/DVD to the drive installed in the external case, and back into the Ultra.

Via my SCSI CD Rom Drive.

Lol, I dont have a FAT32 drive in my Ultra!

My original question was was enquiring about an alternative way to get to wav files from my PC onto the Ultra. I had 2 Zip drives, one SCSI and one USB however (as my second post stated) my USB Zip has bitten the dust so I can't exchange wavs via a FAT32 Zip disk anymore. So that leaves me just with a SCSI Zip and a SCSI CD Rom drive. I am aware of all the other options out there (scsi card, translator etc) however the method I suggested would save an awful lot of time.

I'll rephrase my original question again because I think that last post is starting to confuse matters.

Rephrased question: If can burn an exact FAT32 image of a 650meg HD (in my PC) onto a CD, will my Emu be able to read this CD via a SCSI CD Rom Drive? The PC HD is 40Gig but I've created a 650 meg FAT32 which will contain all the wav files I want to transfer.

Unfortunately the machine that is closest to my emu at the moment has WinME  so I'm still having difficulty finding any decent freeware to try this experiment.
