emusonacid! legacy

Hello,

some time ago on my e6400 (classic) sampler the volume poti doesn?t work right. It adds noise on turning and sometimes no more sound at all. So i opened the case and lift off the cables from the motherboard.
After going through software samplers i came back to hardware and decided not to sell my emu... but reactivate it.

Now i don?t know which cabel and how to reconnect them. Does someone has a motherboard layout as pdf and an advice which cable goes where ?
The details:
On Volume-Knob there are VOL marked cn4 and pins 1-3 and HP (Headphones?) with cn5 and pins 1-3.
On the motherboard there is VOL POT cn18 with 3 pins and somewhere else PHONES cn3 with pins 1-3.
The "logical" connection of the corresponding pins 1-1 2-2 3-3, didn?t work ! Please Help,

Has anyone responded yet? I could probably
look inside my e6400 Classic and see how it's
connected.

Ironically, I bought mine (on eBay) with the volume
knob's shaft sheared off, so it's useless.
However, MIDI volume control works fine, so all
is not lost.

Let me know if you want me to unscrew and peer.

I got from emu support two adresses of repair centers in germany, but i would like to try it first myself, before "mailing" my emu.

so if you could unscrew your sampler it would be very helpfull.

Hallo Volker,

My e6400 is now unscrewed and open, and I can
describe to you how the volume control and headphones
board is connected to the main board.

The volume control board has six pins, running
vertically. I shall call these:

Top
Two
Three
Four
Five
Bottom


There are two 3-wire connectors pushed onto the
pins. The upper connector is on pins Top, Two and
Three. The lower connector is on pins Four, Five and
Bottom.

The upper connector's wires must go to the 3-wire
connector on the main board, called "VOL POT", next
to the large ribbon cable for the front panel. The main
board has "1" and "3" labeled, ("1" is nearest to the
ribbon cable) so the pins are presumably "1", "2" and
"3". Here is how to connect them:

Top connects to "3".
Two connects to "2".
Three connects to "1".


The lower 3-wire connector on the volume control
board is connected to a 3-wire connector on the main
board, labeled "PHONES". It's on the very edge of the
main board, next to the power supply. It has a single
label "1", which is on the side towards the front of
the Emulator, so the other two pins must be "2" and
"3". Here is how to connect them:

Four connects to "3".
Five connects to "2".
Bottom connects to "1".

Thanks for your help Dan,

I finally connected the pins as you described, but no sound either. so i decided to go to my local dealer for musicgear to check the emu whats wrong: After less one hour he found out that the volume knob/poti was defective and repaired it by bridging the old and installing a new (standart not emu) poti inside the case. Now i control volume by midi.

Now Sound is back, by cost of 10 Euros (must be nearly 10 Dollars).

i?m fascinated by the forum, which i tried for the first time, and the rapid help i got.

PS: where is you german from?

Well, I'm glad that you can use MIDI to control the volume. That's exactly what I will do when I take my e6400 to church, because its volume control is broken too!

I learned some German at school in the UK. I haven't used it very much, so I'm not very good with it.
