Preset Creation and editing Programs

Postby Randomguy » Tue Aug 22, 2006 1:14 pm

Ive been looking for PC based tools that allow you to create and manage presets for the EMU Ultra samplers and came across the following ...

Translator - great for reading ISOs in EMU format but doesnt appear to offer anything to create your own presets with voices??

Constructor - quote "Please keep your eyes on this page for more information." anyone know if this was ever released???

ZoeOs - 200 euros? fair play for making such a powerful piece of software but my emu cost me less than that and i dont work in a studio full time and i simply cant afford it

Is there any software available that allows preset creation without a 200 euro price tag???

Also...

Recycle can send presets to the EMU over SCSI, complete with samples mapped to keys.

What is it using to talk to the EMU?? Peptalk? How does ZoeOs talk to the EMU?

I want to look into 'EMU communication' at code level so if anyone has any documentation, links or libraries (dlls or code files) that can help i would be MOST grateful, as there is a possibility i may build a tool for basic preset creation on the pc/mac (nothing quite as advanced as ZoeOs tho!)

Thanks in advance 4 any help people :spliff:

Translator is as flaky as hell with Emu samplers - it's caused me more wasted hours than almost any other piece of software I've ever used - I'd stay well clear (Oh, and it doesn't help you construct your own presets anyway).

Constructor is complete vapourware - they've been advertising it for a couple of years now, and there's still no sign of it appearing.

ZoeOS is astonishing, and more than worth the money if you spend a lot of time with your Emu. 200 euros is a lot of money, but I think it's a very niche market, so he's only going to sell a few copies, for the amount of time he's put in. Nothing else touches it though.

You could also look at wavesurgeon, which does a similar thing as ReCycle (batch sending of samples by SCSI, with some limited key mapping). I believe ReCycle does it as part of the SCSI protocol. ZoeOS does it with a combination of SCSI and MIDI (Ithink!) - Emu have never publically released the MIDI info (apart from what's already in the manual) so it would be a case of taking a long trial and error process to get to the bottom of it all.

Good luck - lots of us hoped that Emulator X would save in EOS format when it was released, but Emu seem to have forgotten about us completely.

What version of Recycle are you referring to? Last I checked I could only send over samples... I would still have to key map them and build the presets.

i have version 2.0 of recylce.

if im not mistaken i just choose a preset number and it sends all the samples, with preset info, mapped over how many keys there are slices.

Thanks for your replies chaps

ive just picked up EZMans sysex doc which im hoping will document the basic creation of presets etc..
