Looking for a working EOS 3.0b download

Postby Justus » Fri Dec 01, 2006 10:32 am

since the the one in the download section here isn't the right file.

If whoever maintains the download page sees this and can fix it, GREAT!

Otherwise, if someone would e-mail me the file, I'd gladly host it on my personal webspace for everyone to share.

EDIT: As an e6400 classic user with the stock 1MB flash RAM, it's the latest version I, and a few others, can use.

I hadn't thought about that.

However, I spent a little time looking around the internet, and I found a way to make it work!

There's a program called "Floppy Image" that you can use to turn the raw sectors of a floppy into an image file, much like an ISO for a CD-ROM. In fact, you can even select an option to turn it into a self-extracting executable!

So, here's what you do:

- Go download the 14-day trial of Floppy Image here: http://www.download.com/Floppy-Image/3000-2242-10053170.html?part=dl-FloppyIma&subj=dl&tag=button

- Install Floppy Image

- Insert your disk

- Under "Read Floppy", click Browse

- Be sure to change "save as type" to "Self-extracting image file (.exe)"

- Choose a name (like EOS3b.exe) and click save

- Click the button that says "start" underneath the browse button

- E-mail the file it creates to me

- I put it up on my webspace for anyone who wants to download it!

I tried it out a little earlier with the 2MB grand piano floppy that came with my unit, and it worked perfectly. The .exe even formatted the floppy correctly with the EOS file sytem!

You can use EOS4.62 if you install 2MB Flash memory.

Well yeah. I might do that eventually, cus I want to be able to read S3000 disks. But it's really hard for me to justify spending $200 on it!

Awesome! Thanks man! I'll be keeping it on mine as well, just as soon as I'm done rewiring my studio so I can get back to my own computer again.

Now I too have it mirrored.

It worked like a charm, by the way. My OS is now updated to 3.0b!

Good news!

Just for my curiosity: do you see some noticeable changes ?

Mostly just visual ones. Better constrasts and fonts, nice new animation on the loading screen. I could swear that some things load just a bit faster. Also, it doesn't seem to struggle so much to find my Jaz drive.

Oh well, I'm sure there are plenty of bugfixes I'd have no clue about. I also don't have the RFX so I wouldn't be able to tell about any improvements to that.

I'm also not sure if it supports new sample formats or not. All I have sample disk wise are some E-mu formats (of course), some Akai S1000 and some S3000. E-mu and S1000 always worked, and S3000 still doesn't, and won't unless I get the flash upgrade, but I knew that already. At this point, even if I do get some other format (like some weird Roland or Kurzweil format or something), I would never know if it hadn't been supported or not at this point.

Oh well, only good things from this upgrade, for sure. So thanks!

THANKS for that!

Been hunting down 3.0b for a while - the link to it on this Forum (in the Files section) is something different again I think.

Will try and report back in case anyone is interested.

Again - on an EIV - works a treat - it had v2.x - so I have upgraded to v3.0b.

And just 20 minutes ago I had the EIV Flash upgraded from 1MB to 2MB - so that means I can load on 4.x on that.

I would have liked to get the 2MB upgrade installed in the E4K but it is a "solder" job and I'd have to lug it into the tech - E4K's are bloody heavy!

This forum is excellent!

this file has just trashed my E6400 sampler. It recognizes that it has the EOS on the disk, but after erasing and installing it fails checksum, and now I have no EOS AT ALL on my sampler.

EDIT:  yeah it was a faulty disk write session. this file is fine.

Can anyone here send me a working file of EOS 3.0b please??? Or send me a floppy disk copy if you can. PM me here if you can. I've been looking all over for a working link but the one listed here is for the Roland samplers. I seriously need this file.
