Hi everyone,

I'm considering switching to a software setup due to a few reasons (money, simplicity, ram limitations).

And I'm reading here that I can't expect the emu x to sound as good as my ultra. However, I am ultimately recording everything through my soundcard anyway to Cubase- so is this a really valid issue for me? Maybe if I were recording to analog tape it might be a larger deal. Your thoughts?

They sound virtually identical. You really have to struggle to hear a difference. I have the E4 Platinum and EmuX side by side. The EmuX sounds slightly cleaner because of the 1212m converters. There won't be a "night and day" change in sound quality.

which one do you prefer? I haven't used E-MU X, I love using my Ultra though.

It's not as quick as the hardware unit (workflow-wise), but more powerful.

I am using the EmuX2 more and more lately on a dedicated computer.

Yeah... that's why I think I would probably prefer to stay with my Ultra, I can work fast and comfortably on it.... Thanks

How is the EmuX2 software in terms of stability? Have you had any trouble with it conflicting with other software/hardware?

What about headroom? i think a soundcard cannot reach hardware units but what you think when in use ?

I mix the analog way and try some comparison with my motu 828mk2 and my E6400classic with the same drumloop, actually my motu saturate really far before my sampler.

X2 is a really nice piece of software. IMO.
I think it compliment the hardware in a good way. I recently bought a e64 which I really like and compared to the e64 eos 4.62 its really clean and a little more "shiny" on the hights. e64 is more grit and more "smack". Hard to describe. I think EX is really transparent to a lot of other softsamplers. In that way it plays back my sampled sh101 sub in a really good clean way. I also love what the e64 does to my sh101 samples.
On me ex2 is stable. On one project I had really long loadingtime on a project whith more than 5 ex2 which was orignally ex1.5.
Also crash when trying to import rex files through import menu in stand alone. Not a real workaround, but you can also drag and drop rex files into ex2. When you do that it dont crash.
