Absynth,FM7 and DX7

Postby baseman » Wed Feb 14, 2007 4:46 pm

Hi ,sorry about this but I would like to know whether the programs Absynth3,FM7 and DX7 can be used on the E4k if used as a Midi controller though this is not the intention but will use it so now and again...

Also are there any sites that provide free samples, and please I mean free not pirated stuff...I'm not interested or do I have to purchase the CD's as a whole.

I'm trying to find the sounds that Pink Floyd used from mid sixties to the early eighties any suggestions are welcome...thanks

Any MIDI keyboard can control any VST if you have the right hardware. You will only run into difficulties if you try and control specific parameters using your keyboard. If you stick to note on/off, velocity and controllers as I do, then you're OK.

I happen to use FM7 and own a DX7 too (well, a TX7 actually) as well as several other hardware modules (S2800i, S1000, D550) and everything works fine.

Regarding Pink Floyd (I'm a fan of theirs too), a lot of their 70s sound was based on organ, acoustic and electric piano, mono synths and tape effects. If you pm me the names of specific tracks, I may be able to help you lay your hands on the sounds you need. You can e-mail me if you prefer: gcoudert1967 [at] hotmail . com

In the 80s, I believe they used E-mu Emax I samplers (A momentary lapse of reason), which were then replaced with Kurzweils in the 90s (The division bell).

OK, don't tell anybody, but what I'd do is sample it off the CD and loop it. But shhh, I never told you that!
