I thought the e5000 couldn't take the output expander, or some of the other expansions.
There are two versions of the analog 8 output expansion, model 6313 and model 6867. The second module can only be used in an Ultra series E4 that has the RFX-32 card installed. The documentation for the first model mentions the other Ultra series (e6400-Ultra, e4xt-ultra), but doesn't mention the e5000 at all.
Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that the e5000 won't take the card, but I'd be very suspicious. The reasoning at E-mu behind the e5000 seemed to be that it was a middle ground between a stripped down e6400-Ultra and a fully tricked out e4xt-Ultra, but that it couldn't be expanded as much (or that's certainly the way it was portrayed in all the review articles I've read of the Ultra series as a whole)
Do you have the hardware manual for the e5000 as well as the EOS manual? It's a much thinner book, but near the back it lists the various upgrades that the unit can have (assuming it's anything like the hardware manual that came with the e6400-Ultra). Unfortunately, the hardware manuals seem to frequently vanish when the units hit second-hand markets, and unlike the EOS manual the hardware manuals aren't archived on E-mu's web site.
