I've read most of the threads about USB and FW to SCSI adaptors but, no one has really given any definite answers that I can find. Is there a way of transfering samples from a Macbook (or other Mac notebook) to an EOS sampler? I know that the Ratoc PCMCIA card can do it but, will the USB or Firewire to SCSI adaptors? Does anyone have a definite answer on this? Is there a way to use something like Peak to transfer sounds over to the emu? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The general concensus is that the USB to SCSI converters simply do not work with samplers. I believe the issue is with the sample dumping software not recognising the USB device as a valid SCSI device but this is mere conjecture on my part as I have no real experience with these devices.

The only way to transfer samples from a laptop to a sampler without a proper SCSI connection is to use the MIDI sample dump rather than SCSI. It is painfully slow but it does work. You just have to remember to have the MIDI out of the sampler connected to the MIDI in of the laptop to enable the correct handshaking to be performed.

if you are looking for a easy way to connect your emu-sampler with your mac (i tested it on a 12" ibook), you need:

-> usb-to-scsi-cable (i got a castlewood systems cable, maybe it will work with other cables like this, but i never tested it: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HUA2WO/ref ... nkCode=asn

-> HP-DSub-50-Pin-Adaptor (to plug the usb-to-scsi-cable to your sampler)

-> bias peak

connect the cable to your mac, open bias peak, go to the menu "sampler" and choose "emu". that's it. no drivers, no hustle.

just load your sample and have fun.

What about if someone does not own Peak?

This is an especially good question since the last couple of versions of peak require OS 10.3.9 or above and I would imagine there are a number of people still stuck with 10.2.8.

Although I can not confirm this personally for myself - I have it on very good authority that the various USB-SCSI devices/connectors will not reliably work with EMU samplers.

To quote an Australian user (who I mentioned this forum to) who owns a E5000 and a E6400 Platinum (and in the past a ESI4000 and an E4K) running various versions of the EOS from 3.0 to 4.6/4.7:

i think there is no freeware available.
to put your samples to the sampler, you can use dsp-quattro 2.1.2 x demo:

but you can't save the samples you receive from your sampler in this demo-version ? saving and export functions are disabled.
so you have to hijack your sounds with a app like http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/ (free demo download) and save it in another (free) audio editor or you must buy dsp quattro or peak.

note:
start your sampler first! then start up your mac, open dsp-quattro x demo.
go to menu -> "commands" -> "network receive" -> "scsi" -> "e-mu".
i tested it only with osx 10.3.9, transmitting works perfectly.
