Yes... it's times like those that you need a MIDI "all notes off" within easy reach (luckily, since I'm controlling my e6400 from an E-mu PX-7 command module sitting on top of the rolling floor rack, "all notes off" is just a two-button-combo away). Pity the e4 series samplers don't have a simple front panel button combo for "all notes off".
(on an almost completely unrelated side note... I've also got a Casio VZ-10M, which has both a "MIDI clear" button right on the front panel, and weird 8-stage envelopes, where any stage can be set to sustain or end... which frequently makes me wish that everyone included flexible envelopes like these... if you want simple ADSR, you can use just the first four stages, or get really freaky with the full eight)
I hadn't realised the first release overrides the second decay on the E-mu...although it almost makes sense: note-off just jumps from whatever stage you're at in the envelope to the release stage (now if only the EOS included the Morpheus style function generators).
