emusonacid! legacy

I just got an E6400 Ultra with 72 megs of ram and I am trying to decide whether or not to sell it. The unit is in excellent working order but has a few "issues". The volume knob is missing. Someone probably swiped the knob, as the unit came from Guitar Center. It still has the pot, just no plastic knob. A few scuffs here and there, nothing major. A hairline scratch on the screen cover, nothing major as well. The unit has an old ide 4 gig from a old computer installed and formatted.

I need a synth more than a sampler I believe. Or should I keep this and try to learn it instead?

If I do sell it, how much should I expect to get for the unit?

Keep it.. i have been a synth junkie.. but the sampler is the ultimate tool.. it does synth sounds as good as VA synths. What sounds are you after? you can after all build what you need on the sampler using base samples..

Depends on how you prefer to work but e-mus are really nice synthesizer with huge possibilities, but you need to build everything from scratch, except the non-modular routing.
It is more time consuming than, say, a nordlead or a classic analogue synth, but less than a Clavia G2.

It's interesting to synthesize from samples, you could achieve sounds a synthesizer cannot do, except V-synth and stuff like that.

I would say let have a try, take your time to discover your e-mu and you should find a great synthesizer, have a listen to mfphouse soundtrack here:

i'd say better, especially in bass sounds, e-mus are far more precise and punchier than a nord lead 3 or a virus.

same.. i have discovered that my self.. i am usualy sampling down my VA into the emu then finalize and layer the patch there... i actually have improved my sound huge..

not worth selling maybe you could get about $200US wo/the knob


sampler are trading ridiculously cheap these days.

if you are looking to learn synthesis techniques, the emu ultra samplers are a great place to learn and achieve great results.

I need to get a midi keyboard and play around on it for a couple months. I would like to understand how to use (find rather) the filter controls on it. I have not done much experimenting yet.

I love VA's though, so if someone has a trade offer - let me know.

Well worth the effort to dig deeper into this machine, it will reward you beyond hopes -I think. It's powerful, I read the manual twice just to get an overview of the beast, and now I'm building my patches from many sources, loads of fun!!!

it took a short day to get up and running.. and its just amazing.. the os is realy quick to work in.. !! i wish the screen was twice as big, and it had support for usb for sample transfare.. but i mostly record my own samples into the box.. and for that it works perfect :D

and when you start to dive into the filters you will not regret keeping the unit ! :D
