ESI Filter question - from newbie emu user...

Postby snaper » Fri Aug 17, 2007 5:51 pm

Hy Emu Heads!

Last week I bought an old ESI sampler, with Turbo option kit, and internal HDD...and I love it:D:D:D:D

But I have a question, cause I dont find the answer in the manual...

So.

How can I add more than one filter to a sample...or a preset...

Example :

I get a reece from my synth, add a PHASER1, then 4nd HP, and then add a simple LP with LFO...

How can I do this?

...possible this or RESAMPLE?

Thanks, snaper

i think it?s only possible with the big Brother E4 (XT) , via the Live Inputs. There you can Stack up to eight Filter via RFX Card or Preset Menu Input Modus.

Otherwise "Resample" the output...don?t know if this Option is also avaible in ESI Series.

Oh dear, I used to own an Esi-4000 and I believe it is possible. I'll try and remember how it's done.

When you edit your preset, you can select a zone (lowest and highest key). This zone can then be tweaked independently from the rest (filter, amp, etc.). This zone select parameter is one of the first pages in Preset Edit, I think.

However, if two or more samples are layered in any given zone, they'll all be affected by the same filter (amp, etc.) settings.

I hope this helps. The Esi is a wonderful machine. I only sold mine because I got an E4K.

Just to clarify my reply.

You can't add several filters to the same sample simultaneously, but you can use different filters on different zones of the keyboard.

If you want more than one, you'll indeed have to re-sample, and as MFPHouse guessed, the Esi cannot do this internally.

Also, don't forget to play around with the Digital Tools on the Esi (I think they're in the Sample Edit section), they're great.

I have an another question...its not a filter question but...

So I dint have a SCSI cable...searching is in progress...so I dump samples to my E-Mu via MIDI sample dump...but if I have a stereo sample, the host software send it as to mono sample to the sampler.

So my question is that how can I merge this samples in the sampler to one stereo sample.

Thanks

When you set up your preset, put one sample in the first location and pan it hard left. Put the second sample in the next location and pan it hard right.

Hope this makes sense.

Yes, yes. Its works, but if I use this, I have 2 individual samples...I want one stereo...I have read in the manual that I can copy sample, and add it in to a samples lef tor right side...

You mean, you want to merge two mono samples into one stereo sample.
I really don't know...

Incidentally, when you get your SCSI cable, make sure you get a copy of Esi-Win. It's a neat (and fast) utility for transferring samples over SCSI between your PC and the Esi. I used it an awful lot when I had my Esi-4000.

Yeah, I love Apple Macs too but I had to switch to a Windows PC in 2001 to accommodate my musical requirements!

By the way, do you know what Macintosh stands for?

:D

Funny:D

You know, I used PC-s for production from 1995 to 2006, the I switches to MAC, and I love macs:D So using only 1 soft I wont switch bacK:D

Another Question :

Filter automation...in Logic 7...

So I assign the filter cutoff to the Modulation jog, and then enable the realtime controls, but the filter wont automatized...why?

Thanks:D
