SCSI to FIREWIRE adapter?

Postby CountLovE » Tue Dec 19, 2006 12:39 am

Hello! This is my first post of many, I am sure.

So I just got an e6400 ultra.

I wired in a 9 Gig scsi drive. Still waiting on a CDrom in the mail, but I was wanting to ask if this device would work for copying banks from my G5 to the local e6400 scsi drive. Or could I load Banks via from the G5 into Ram on the E6400.

Thanks for any help!

Count.

Hi,

In general, Firewire-SCSI and USB-SCSI interface don;t play well with samplers due to the fact that they don't actually present themselves to the operating system as SCSI devices. This means that using SCSI sample dump software to transfer samples to your sampler would be out of the question.

Having said that, however, physically writing to the HD "may" actually work provided you use something that can write to EMU formatted drives. Unless you have your HD formatted as FAT volume (which I think the Ultra range can do - I don't own one so I don;t know their specifics. Perhaps one of the others here can comment on that aspect) in which case you cvould possibly do it directly from your PC (assuming you are not using a Mac).

One option would be for you use Translator and a Zip drive to achieve the same goal. Place the Zip drive in series with the sampler and, using Translator, write the data to a Zip disk from the PC than read it in to the sampler and save to the internal HD that way.

HOpe this helps.
