Excellent - this is now on my mod to do list - LED fan could actually be useful for lighting around the back of the rack......so long flashlight :)

this mod looks pretty dope! (thanks kalide) i would love to do it on my e4x.. i know it doesnt have ide.. and im assuming the floppy is scsi.. so can i use a scsi to ide adapter, and then ide to sata to install a removable 2.5in sata hd?

Hi, I am a little confused as to why do you really need the sata bay.

Would a plain sata-to-USB cable work? What I would like to do is to simple have an usb cable coming out from the back of the sampler.

If usb-2-sata cables are usually used to connect old sata drives to new USB computers... why can't we go the opposite way, and connect a USB drive to the sampler's sata interface (provided you installl the ide-to-sata conversion kit)

Any ideas?

i guess if you could make that work it would be useful as well.. but i think its more practical to have removable media. if you transferred samples via usb wouldnt you have to unlpug the usb cable every time you wanted load stuff in the emu and reboot the sampler anyway? i dont see the hard drive being able to use both interfaces at once.. well i just dont know of any that can.

btw for non ultras there are some more expensive (60+usd) scsi to sata adapters around on the net. im going to have to try out one of those i thinK

Why would you have to reboot the sampler everytime you connect the USB drive?

It?s no Problem. I just said it. Because many People wondering about this, after upgrading there Harddisk . ( Look other Threads ).

Only the Fat32 can use more GB .

Folks,

It seems the IDE SATA converter doesn't work or maybe I miss something ... :cry:

The e-mu shows the disk but as it was in sleep mode, and when I try to format, eos says "Unspecified Error" ... :grumble:

I'll tell you if I find the trick (if there is one ! :???:

)
Maybe some of you have some issues to suggest ?

Are there any pins to make sure the SATA interfaces works at 1.5GB intead of 3.0GB/s (i.e slowing it down a little)?

Do you need additional external power for the hard drive rather than powering it from the SATA connector ?

Not tried this myself, but those would be my tests.

Also - do you know if the interface works on a regular PC already before trying it in the Emu ?

There are 4 pins, but bought it OEM so at first it went with no docs. I finally found the documentation on Samsung's site : http://aerodrink.free.fr/temp/MH320JI.pdf
They say :

SATA 1.5Gb/s Speed Limit Jumper setting Only for
SATA 3.0Gb/s products. In some rare cases SATA 1.5Gb/s
hosts can not establish SATA interface connection with
SATA 3.0Gb/s devices due to interface protocol issues.
In this case the jumper may be installed as shown on the
figure below to force the device to negotiate for SATA
1.5Gb/s speed.

So first, as my drive is 1.5 Gb there is no jumper to put on. Then, if I look at the PDF (2 pages only) I don't see the jumpers on their scheme ... only the empty pins :cry:

I should give it a try anyway, but the size of the jumpers is smaller than the ones used on conventionnal 3.5" size and I don't have such small jumpers at the moment :???:

By the way my SATA->IDE adaptor is SATA 1.5 Gb compliant so theorically there should be no pb ... :???:

I tried powering it from my desktop's USB bus while it was connected SATA->IDE to the sampler, with no success. e6400 still sees the drive, but always in sleep mode.

You're right ! I'll try this tonight when I'll be back from work. I already connected the HD with USB on my computer and it's well recognized (tried to format it FAT32, then tried with no partitions, etc. never succeed to work on the E-MU). But you're right : I have to know if the problem comes from the SATA->IDE adaptor or the HD itself.

My last post seems to have not made it.

My understanding is the EOS FAT32 implementation hard drive Max size for is 137GB, so 320G may be your problem.

If you have a smaller drive, try that...?

I'm using a 120GB Samsung IDE 2.5" and it works fine.

Is your hard disk a Samsung M60 ?
Would you mind posting the model name ?
