Managing samples, presets, banks etc...

Postby KRS-2 » Tue Oct 21, 2003 4:20 am

So I have been messing around lately with sending samples to the emu from recycle and setting up multi's, but im still a bit confused with the best way to save my samples.

I have read through the manual a bit and it is somewhat confusing for the beginner at hard synths such as myself.

I guess what I want to do is send my samples and be able to save them all in a group so when I pull up a track in cubase I can just load that group(i guess its called bank) and have my multi alll set up the way I left it.

I spose i will get it sooner or later but maybe some experianced guys can throw around some ideas for the best way to save and manage saples, or what works best for you. or maybe just try to answer my question.

any help/tips appreciated..

ive been using the emu for a couple years now, and im actually quite happy with my system

at the top of the pile is the bank. I only use the bank as a song, ive heard other people do it diffrently but this seems to work fo me

presets basically i think of as instruments, except sometimes ill group in other stuff to save space. so ill have a bass preset, hihat, snare, kicks, breaks, vocal etc
this is good because if i wanna use the same bass preset i can just load it up and assign it to a MIDI channel

this way ive never run out of room and ive nevver had to use preset switching in the middle of a tune

can anybody add anything? ids like to know as well =)

Well - once you've done creating your presets and you've got your tune going...and it's time to save what you've done. Press Disk/Browse - Save and simply name your bank - this will remember which presets you created using which samples you chose and put them on the correct channels for you.

DS1....have a go at linking presets - you can spread like 2 existing presets (ie gnarly bass preset 1 and sub bass preset 2) across the keyboard as you do with samples except you keep all the programming in cords, lfos, filters etc. It's worth taking a look :spliff:

if you do your banks the way ezman said, it will also save the levels, pans and everything else. so i have noticed with my set up. i can load a bank well before i even get my computer going and all the levels are correct.

i would think you could use more then 16 presets. i think with the proper upgrade you should beable to run another set of 16. you know in your computer you have to select what sound card you want, what midi channel, then what channel, and so on... but i am not to familar with midi in the really technical way. i can't even get my keyboard to play separately from my sampler, even though i belive it should be possible.
