I'm guessing that we haven't really run into the limit on the lifespan of these things yet, so nobody really knows how long they'll last.
I'd be most worried about your HD. Older hard drives often came with a 3-year warranty, but the way an Emu uses the HD is a lot less intese than how a computer used the HD, so drive life is probably longer than usual.
Chickensys' Translator would be able to convert your samples to another format, should the worst occur, and your Emu die.
