Emulator X Fatal Crash

Postby Razorfish » Wed May 12, 2004 6:41 pm

I have a bug, or at least something very bad is happening in my Emulator X Studio....

Clicking on "My Computer" in the system side panel causes the application to completly crash and close appruptly. When Emulator X is relaunched each channel's output routing is displayed as a blank and the ASIO Out 1/2 output pair does not appear in the list. The other ASIO outs still work though...
I can recreate this every time without fail so have learned just not to do it - but is does mean I cant browse my sample archive in a tree structure, I have to use the file open... dialogue.
To get the ASIO output channels back again requires a complete system restart.

Has anyone experienced this? I saw a post on the 1820 list closely related where the ASIO ports go after a crash requiring reboot...

If it is running as an instrument it takes cubase out with it as well, I however use Emulator X as a standalone applcation.

System Spec:

P4 2.4 GHZ
1GB Ram
Cubase SX 2 hooked up via ASIO to
Soundscape Mixtreme V 4
Emulator X using ASIO drivers with
Patchmix DSP Mixer

I treat Emulator X like a standalone hardware sampler and send the Audiodock MIDI from cubase via a Midex8, then mix the outs of the Audiodock on my desk with the mixtreme cubase outs. This gives me 10 sampler outs (8 Analogue/2SPDIF) and the 16 TDIF outs for Audio tracks. And it works with 5ms latency!

Lets hope some one knows how to fix it, 'cos I don't!

This happens to me to.
I thought upgrading to 1Gb would solve it but as I hear your story it won't.

You use a Mixtreme too man? Great card eh? I have two in my PC so I get 30 ins with 4 SS8IO3s (you have to route a pair of SPDIF channels back to the main card). I did this so I could make use of the 16 outs on my E4XT and have room for my other synths. How are you getting along with v 4.0 of the mixer? (I can't use it 'til next time I do a reinsto over win 98). The Fatal Error could be something to do with the Mixtreme drivers as well..try switching back to 1.4 maybe and do a check on the Sydec site...Nads.

V 4 Mixtreme

Postby Razorfish » Fri May 14, 2004 1:38 pm

Yeah, hail to the Mixtreme! I instaled the version 4 mixer yesterday and it is looking good. I had some problems getting it installed correctly over the previous version but it went in in the end....Uninstall all previous SS software then drivers first with "Add Hardware..." then setup the mixer App and it should be OK....
Initially I wondered were all my new VST plugins were but I found there was a special Soundscape VST directory separate from my other plugins which as it turned out was empty! I copied a few from my SX2 directory and Soundsape can't run these (it needs cubase only) "Q" EQ works I know. Soundscape gives you an error dialogue for each plugin it can run though which is helpfull. However all is not lost as I downloaded about 20 great VST plugins from links on the soundscape "plugins" page and now have a good selection. They all work in th V4 mixer and once I have understood the required ASIO routing I will be fine...
Oh yeah, the new Version 4 Flash sceen when you start the mixer is much much nicer too!

What are the WDM drivers for in soundscape?? I think media player is using them...
Have you got an Emulator X/1820m running along side your mixtreme too? It is highly reccomended!!

WDMs are used by Sonar/Cakewalk i think...could be wrong though.
>>ATM I just use my E4XT Ultra which is more than enough for my needs but I might have a look at the Emulator-X later on if I see enough good reports! Nads.
