what?s the difference between these 2 samplers ?

128 voices vs 64 voices, 32 midi channels vs 16, aes/beu output vs not, hard drive vs none, word clock vs none.. you can be picky, i'd hold out for at least an e4xt ultra

that?s all ?!? i think you can upgrade an e6400 ultra to a e4xt ultra. or am i wrong ?

You are right. But, the upgrade would cost more than the e4xt ultra go for these days...

But then again, there comes a time when you suddenly realize "Damn, I could really need that upgrade", if you catch my drift. I was about to sell my midi expansion, and just before I was about to seal the deal I realized that keeping that one made things ten times easier for me when I for example hook up both an electric drumset and a midicontroller to the sampler. Maybe a bad example, but you know what I am talking about.

How much price-difference is there between the two samplers? Oh, and by the way, what are you going to use the sampler as?

i got lots of hardware. i still use atari with a cubase version from 1989. and i got an analog mixer. so i?m looking for 8 outputs extension. but i think this extension isn?t build in an e4xt, isn?t it ?!

you can certainly get an E6400 Ultra and run with it, but I'm sure you'll need at least a hard drive... on the other hand, probably for $100 more you can get an E4XT with all the bells and whistles. Back in the day, it cost close to double... it's always better to have and not need than to need and not have...

No one serious enough to get a rack-mounted EMU should bother with anything other than a E4XT Ultra or Platinum.

If you think you don't need the upgrades, then just get a entry level sampler, not an Ultra serious. They will kick your ass.

EMU Ultra samplers are serious gear. I actually maxed mine out years ago and am disappointed that there will be no more improvements to the Ultra series.

that?s right. i already got 2 emu e6400 ultra samplers. the first ones got 72mb ram, hard disk and romboard with sounds from planet phat & extreme lead, the second one has got 128 mb and adat option. we got 2 studios basically analog. so we?ll just need as much analog outputs as possible. but i think it?s stupid to buy 2 e4xt ultra if they don?t have 16 outputs at all..

The E4 Platinum had 16 outs, I believe, and it will definately be the last and best rack sampler ever made by EMU.

But at $500-$800, the E4XT Ultra is cheap! I paid almost 5x that. The biggest cost is the time to get good with it.

In the last 5 years, whenever a paying gig comes along, I thank god I don't have to deal with a cheap, stripped down sampler.

you are mistaken, the Platinums are a step above the Ultra's

Say, where do you guys find your used emu's?
